All is now set for the commencement of the construction of the five-floor ultramodern edifice that will host the Project Management Unit Office of the Rice Value Chain Development Office. The first block to mark the laying of the foundation stone for building, was laid by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Gabriel Mbairobe, who also serves as interim Minister of Tourism and Leisure, on Wednesday, 03rd September 2025 at the building site, situated opposite the Customs Office, Up-Station, Bamenda.

During his speech, Minister Mbairobe expressed pride, hope and gratitude to the RVCDP Team, led by its National Coordinator, Mr. Muluh Gregory NGUH, for organising such an elaborate and successful event within the short time frame. He went on to  highlight the project’s significance in enhancing food security, economic growth, and livelihoods of the beneficiaries, the city of Bamenda, and Cameroon as a whole.

He explained that the building is designed, taking into consideration the United Nations specifications for public structures which include issues like accessibility: meaning it is in compliance with accessibility standards, ensuring that building is usable by all individuals catering especially to the needs of people with disabilities, thereby ensuring the installation of ramps, elevators, and appropriate signage.

It also takes into consideration sustainability ensuring that the engineers use environmentally friendly materials, construction practices and energy-efficient designs that reduce carbon footprints, including solar energy systems and water conservation measures.

Safety and Security are also a priority as the structure will be constructed in compliance with international safety standards, including fire safety and structural integrity as well as the incorporation of security measures to protect users and the building itself.

Other issues taken into consideration include Cultural Sensitivity and health standards; that is adequate ventilation, natural lighting, and thermal comfort to promote health and well-being and the use of non-toxic materials that improve indoor air quality, amongst other international standards and specifications which aim to create public buildings that are functional, safe, and beneficial to the communities they serve. In his address, the The Bamenda City Mayor, Mr. Paul Achobang praised the project’s potential to boost food security, stimulate economic growth, and empower farmers; describing the laying of the foundation stone as a significant leap forward in the agricultural sector with far-reaching impacts on the community. He was particularly grateful to the Government of Cameroon for engaging in such a huge project that will definitely affect the lives of the Bamenda denizens positively. The Mayor enjoined the population of Bamenda to commit to nurturing this endeavor with the same dedication and passion that inspired its inception and remember that it is not merely a construction project, but a testament to a collective vision for a prosperous Bamenda and symbolizes the commitment to working together—government, community, and stakeholders—to create a brighter future for all.
