VIVA LOGONE and the Rice Value Chain Development Project have pledged their support to each other to attain their main objective to increase rice production and improve the livelihoods of rice farmers in the Far North Region of Cameroon, and by extension, the country as a whole. This was the highpoint of the meeting between the two Projects involved in tice production, which took place in Maroua on 11th July 2024 at the MIZAO hotel.
The heads of the two projects compared notes on the planning and execution of both projects, and pledged to support each other, as, when and where necessary, to meet the objectives for which they were created, which are mainly to unleash the potential of the rice industry in Cameroon, considerably increase rice production and bring to bay the importation of rice in Cameroon.
The bosses of the two projects discussed the realities on the ground, the anticipated problems, the possible solutions and the best way to execute the projects simultaneously. It was established that the RVCDP is not coming to compete with, or overthrow VIVA LOGONE or SEMRY, (another project involved in rice production in the Far North Region), but to complement the activities of both projects.
The meeting ended with a firm resolve by both projects to put all hands on deck, leaving no stone unturned, to effectively execute their respective projects, within the framework of the law, complementing each other and collaborating in all possible ways, all for the benefit of rice farmers and to ensure food security for the country as a whole.
In attendance were the Project Coordinator of VIVA LOGONE, Mr Laoumaye Merhoye, the Project Coordinator of RVCDP, experts from both projects, and Mr. Fontcha Joseph, the Maga Chief of Sector for SEMRY, who also pledged the commitment of SEMRY to the overall objective.
